Last updated: 2026-05-23 · Effective: 2026-02-14 · Version 0.9.2

Axion is built around the idea that your audio shouldn't leave your machine. This page explains exactly what we collect, what we don't, and what you can do about it. Plain language, no dark patterns.

Axion is operated by StreamLink Pty Ltd (ABN 64 615 965 449), an Australian company, acting as the data controller for the purposes of GDPR / UK-GDPR. Privacy enquiries: hi@axion.cab.

1. What we collect — and what we don't

The short version: we collect almost nothing.

  • Your audio stays local by default. The browser's getUserMedia stream is processed entirely on your device; under normal use the signal never reaches our servers. We do not intentionally collect, store, transmit, or analyse your audio. The only time any audio leaves your device is when you explicitly initiate an action that uploads it — for example, attaching audio to a support email, or opting into a future cloud feature. Only the audio you choose to send is uploaded, only for as long as needed to complete the action you requested.
  • We don't run analytics by default. No tracking pixels, no behavioural telemetry. We don't know which presets you load, which pedals you tweak, or how long you play.
  • We do store what you explicitly send us. When you publish a preset to the gallery, the preset metadata (name, description, tags, the rig parameters) lives on our server so other users can play it. When you buy Pro, we store your licence record. When you email support, we keep your email and what you wrote until the conversation is resolved.

2. What stays on your device

Most of what Axion uses about you lives in your browser, not on our servers. This data stays local to your browser and is not transmitted to Operator — we don't receive or store it on our side.

  • IndexedDB — your saved presets, your uploaded cab IRs (Pro), your cached NAM models. Local-only.
  • localStorage — your theme choice, your community-gallery author handle, and the unlock state for the early-access gate.
  • Cookies — only the preview-unlock cookie during the pre-launch gate. No tracking cookies, no third-party cookies, no advertising identifiers.

3. Audio recording stays local

Worth saying twice. The WAV recorder writes locally to your disk via the browser's File System Access API (or to a downloaded blob on browsers that lack it). Recordings live on your machine and are not uploaded to our servers. If you ever choose to share a recording, that's an explicit upload action you initiate — we don't make that decision for you.

4. Who else touches your data

Axion uses a small number of third-party services to operate. Each one handles a specific slice of data:

  • Polar (merchant of record for purchases) processes your payment details. We never see your card number; we receive a licence key and a record that a sale happened.
  • Resend (transactional email) delivers your magic-link sign-ins and purchase confirmations. They handle the sending; we don't store your email beyond what's needed to send a given message.
  • Cloudflare hosts the site, the API, and the preset database. Like any web host they see the same request metadata anyone hosting a website sees: IP address, user agent, request paths, timing. We do not enable Cloudflare's analytics or behavioural tracking.

5. Shared presets

When you publish a preset to the community gallery you make its metadata (name, description, tags, author handle, rig parameters) public. Anyone who loads axion.cab/preset/<slug> hears your tone. You can delete any preset you own from "Your shared presets" at any time; deletion is immediate and permanent.

Presets are bound to a SHA-256 hash of your Polar licence key, not the key itself or your email. We can verify you own a preset (to let you delete or edit it) without ever storing the raw key.

6. Your rights under GDPR / UK-GDPR

If you're in the UK or the EEA — and even if you aren't — you have the following rights with respect to data we hold about you:

  • Access — email hi@axion.cab and we'll send you everything attached to your email or licence key.
  • Deletion — ask and we'll delete it. Your shared presets go offline; your licence record is anonymised (we keep the proof of purchase for tax compliance, with personal identifiers stripped).
  • Portability — your locally-saved presets export to JSON natively from inside the app. Your shared presets export via the public API.
  • Correction, restriction, objection — get in touch and we'll handle each in good faith.

7. How long we keep things

  • Licence records — kept while your licence is active and for a period afterwards for tax compliance (typically seven years; required by most jurisdictions). Personal identifiers can be stripped on request once the licence is retired.
  • Shared presets — kept while you choose to keep them public. Deleted on request.
  • Support emails — kept while the conversation is active; archived for one year after resolution; then deleted.
  • Server logs — held by our infrastructure provider for limited operational and security purposes only, with a short retention window (typically days).

8. International transfers

Cloudflare's edge network spans multiple jurisdictions. Standard contractual clauses (or their UK equivalent) cover any transfer of personal data outside the UK / EEA.

9. Security

  • Licence keys are validated server-side via Polar's API; we never store payment data.
  • Shared-preset uploads pass an upload-time profanity filter and are subject to community moderation.
  • Magic-link sign-in tokens are single-use, expire in 10 minutes, and are stored hashed.
  • All traffic to axion.cab is HTTPS-only.

10. Children

Axion isn't directed at children under 16. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone under that age. If you believe we have, please tell us and we'll delete it.

11. Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be announced at least thirty (30) days in advance via the email address on file for Pro and Cloud customers. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page always reflects the most recent revision.

12. Contact
